This session will provide an overview of the assessment and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders. There will be a specific focus on how to differentiate OCD from anxiety disorders and how cognitive-behaviour therapy strategies need to be adjusted for use with clients with this presentation. Supervisees will have an opportunity to apply knowledge learnt through role play activities.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be a complex and often misunderstood condition that can significantly impact clients' lives. This session will provide supervisees with an overview of OCD, including its diagnostic features, common presentations, and underlying mechanisms.
The session will focus on differentiating OCD from anxiety disorders and exploring evidence-based approaches for assessment and treatment. Specific emphasis will be placed on how to adjust cognitive-behaviour therapy and other strategies to suit clients with OCD.
Through facilitated discussions, and practical activities, supervisees will develop confidence in their ability to support clients with OCD, offering compassionate care while applying effective therapeutic strategies.
