Please find a copy of our referral form here. Alternatively, please send a letter with your details, your patient's details, and a request for service under the Better Access scheme. The maximum number of sessions that can be specified in any one referral is 6. A patient is eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.
If you are a GP referring a patient under the Better Access scheme...
GP Mental Health Treatment Medicare items were introduced on to the Medicare Benefits Schedule. They are:
- MBS items 2700, 2701, 2715 or 2717 - Preparation of a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (effective from 1 November 2011);
- MBS item 2712 - Review of a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan; and
- MBS item 2713 - GP Mental Health Treatment Consultation.
Please note: GPs do not have to complete another GP Mental Health Treatment Plan using one of the new items (2700, 2701, 2715 or 2717) if they are already managing a patient’s care needs using one of the former GP Mental Health Treatment Plan items (items 2702 and 2710) and this plan is still appropriate to the patient’s needs.
A referral under the Better Access initiative MUST be addressed to the psychologist or HMC Launceston team, and MUST include a request for service. Completion of a Mental Health Treatment Plan without a request for service is not sufficient for patients to access Medicare rebates under the scheme.
If you are a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician referring a patient under the Better Access scheme...
Referrals can be verbal or written, and must be addressed to the psychologist or HMC Launceston team and include a request for service under the relevant funding scheme.
