Do I need a referral?

There are several options for seeing a clinician at HMC Launceston.

1. Self-referral: No external referral is needed although you will need to complete a brief phone assessment prior to your first appointment. This is to make sure there is a clinician at HMC Launceston who will suit your needs. You may be able to claim a rebate for private sessions through your private health insurance.

2. General Practitioner (GP) referral: Your GP can refer you to HMC Launceston. They may also complete a plan to allow you to access rebates through Medicare. For more details about plans, please see the How Much Does it Cost section.

3. Psychiatrist or Paediatrician referral: Your psychiatrist or paediatrician may also refer under a Medicare funding Scheme, allowing you to access Medicare rebates. Please see the How Much Does it Cost section for further details.

4. National Disability Insurance Agency referral: You may be referred through a NDIA planner, NDIA local area coordinator, your Coordinator of Supports, or you may self-refer under NDIS funding if you have a current NDIS plan and hours allocated for psychology or allied health support.
